Abstract

Laparoscopic surgical technique requires a set of skills that are slightly different from those in open surgery. This text outlines the basic steps for the construction of a simple, low-cost home-made laparoscopic trainer.

The box trainer was assembled from easy-to-get, cheap items available in any DIY store.

The first version of the simulator required certain technical modifiations in order to become a fully satisfying trainer. These modifications are discussed in the text including variants used by other authors.

The simulator is believed to facilitate the learning of basic laparoscopic skills by junior doctors.
